2010 Fire Walk Tour

This month commemorates the anniversary of the Great Fire of 1910, the fire that destroyed seven city blocks in Lake Charles.

Banner at Historic City HallOver $750,000 in property damage was caused by the fire that destroyed over 109 commercial buildings, homes, churches and government offices.

An exhibit commemorating the Great Fire of 1910 will open at the Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center on April 7th, 2010. 

Photos and artifacts chronicling the fire will be on display including  photos from local historian Maude Reid’s scrapbook and artifacts discovered during the recent re-landscaping and construction of the Center’s plaza.

A documentary film produced and directed by Westlake High School Student Rachel Guasp along with fellow classmates at Lake Charles Boston Learning Academy is also a part of the exhibit.

Our quarterly meeting will be held on April 24th, and will consist of a 2010 Fire Walk Tour, including a brief lecture by Preservationist and former CHPS President, Adley Cormier.

A ribbon cutting and formal dedication of the Plaza will also be held along with a reception.
