42ND Palm Sunday Tour of Homes Selected

42ND PALM SUNDAY TOUR OF HOMES SELECTED FOR APRIL 9 EVENT

IMG 2896Six homes will be the selected properties for the 42nd Palm Sunday Tour of Homes, April 9, 2017 sponsored by the Calcasieu Historical Preservation Society (CHPS).

According to Karen Miller, Tour Chair, the theme of “PAST+FUTURE” reflects the new wave of quality infill homes with traditional character and detailing in truly historical neighborhoods.

Three properties on tour are vintage Lake Charles homes: the Granger Home, landmarked as “the Flanders House” at 605 Mill and Moss; the Nava Home, listed as the historic Levy House, circa 1900, at 618 Moss Street; and the Shreve Home (a Shearman cottage property) at 406 Hodges.

In addition, three newly constructed properties—built to quality standards with new technology and materials, but using vintage patterns and designs—will be on tour as well. Tour patrons will be able to view the

Pre-event tickets are priced at $10 and will be available at Gordon’s Drug Store on Lake Street in Lake Charles and at Papersmith on Ernest Street just north of Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles. (These vendors can take cash or checks made out to CHPS for the purchase of tickets.)

The Tour includes a full color souvenir program with images. The 42nd Palm Sunday Tour of Homes is part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the City of Lake Charles.

On Palm Sunday, day-of-event- tickets will be available at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd which will serve as a hospitality, will-call, and information center. In addition, the sanctuary of this National Register individually listed property will be open for touring with members of the congregation serving as hosts and guides.

Pujo Street Café will be open during the entire tour and will offer a selection of refreshments based on area history and heritage. In addition, the Pujo Street Café will offer their traditional Sunday brunch offerings just prior to the Tour. Reservations for Brunch are recommended.
